This intriguing release presents London’s Various Production collective at their best: jazz singer Cassandra’s emotional, breathless voice emerges prominently against the precise production of Hardware’s ‘Sampling Again’. Crackling effects roughen the surface of the evolving break beat that contains traces of drum and bass with its trembling tom sounds. Hardware’s edit of ‘Rush’ firmly dedicates itself to a catchy bass melody. With Cassandra’s melismatic vocals, the harmonies keep varying over this looping foundation. It is her conspicuous timbre that predisposes these songs to become stuck in everyone’s heads.
