With their debut single for UK electronic label Bit-Phalanx, Japanese duo Sayaconcept boldly take from their heritage. A reinterpretation of the Okinawa folk song, Sayaconcept’s ‘Nara (Asadoya Yunta)’ conflates the traditional with electronic elements. Characteristic pentatonic vocals, shamisen sounds and sparse big drum beats are turned into a synth-supported, beat-based pop song. The EP features a rhythmically varied demo as well as an effect-loaded live version. Coloquix adds some reverberant electric guitars to the mix and Niggle presents a dubstep revamp.
