Shed has put out numerous releases - including three albums - on labels ranging from Ostgut Ton to 50 Weapons and Soloaction Records. Nevertheless, the cuts of rough, rave-powered techno he sporadically unleashes under the Head High alias always maintain a certain enigmatic quality that can't be matched. This time he returns with a 12" double-pack Megatrap, a set of eight tracks that thump with all-engulfing raw strength. No one else can make breakbeat-inspired '90s techno sound so glorious. Opening with the ecstatic rush of 'Hex Factor', taking in a brand new 'XXX Mono Mix' of 2010's piano-fuelled classic 'It's a Love Thing' and three different mixes of the title track - the pick being perhaps the 'Mix Mix' with its springy, rolling rhythms and dusty drums - its a storming set. 'Power Seat' lurches wildly, carried along on a breathless vocal sample, while 'Think It' is a vintage house exultation that loses none of its power despite the nostalgia coursing through its expansive beats. Overall, a welcome and extensive release from the Head High name.
