Blood Orange’s Devonte Hynes reveals yet another talent, providing the introspective score for Gia Coppola’s directorial debut Palo Alto. Hynes, who also orchestrated the film’s soundtrack, goes all out here, imbuing each brief piece with the proper weight and utilising a wide-range of synthesized instruments. There’s the dreamy keys on ‘Soccer Field’, sombre brass on ‘Teddy Rides Home’ and delicate piano on ‘Fred Drives’. For fans of Hynes’ vocal abilities, there’s the funky ‘Palo Alto’ theme, the airy ‘April’s Daydream’ and the appropriately dramatic ‘April’s Bathroom Bummer’.
