Simple Records and Aus Music head Will Saul joins the DJ-Kicks series with a selection close to his heart. Reflecting the principles of his practice as a DJ, instead of going for the well-known choices, Saul asked his associated producers for exclusives and contributes three originals himself as well. These set the tone of the mix: Gerry Read explores raw techno, whereas Sei A goes heavy with deep bass and reverberant vocals and Cottam’s beautifully distorted saxophones introduce some jazz to proceedings. Elsewhere, Hyperdub’s Walton and Leon Vynehall’s percussive-loaded house fit right into this carefully curated collection.
