Smallville co-founder Julius Steinhoff steps out on his own with his first full-length solo album. On Flocking Behaviour, the Hamburg-based producer continues to worship of the altars of New York, Detroit and Chicago house, but he’s not content to simply copy. He adds a soft, spacey touch to ‘Where Days Begin’, which pulses and builds against a backdrop of emotive pads. ‘Treehouse’ sports an acidized synth bass line, while the hazy ‘Hey You’ threatens to lose the listener in its pulsing beats and soulful organs. Dancers can cue up the techno-edged ‘Under The Waterfall’ and the jacking title track.
