Footwork meets meaty techno on this the fifth release on Sasu Ripatti's label. Working under his Ripatti pseudonym, the Finnish producer experiments with broken, fragmented rhythms and muscular bass tones. A-side '#54' consists of a single vocal chop that mirrors the syncopated kicks, a jerking rhythm imbued with awkward tension, quiet voices muttering "okay" between phrases. '#46', the B-side, operates on a similar template, yet its vocals are higher pitched, its beats in even more disarray. A droning synth wash adds a hint of melody, yet it's clear that it's all about the kicks here.
