Ghetto house pioneer DJ Slugo is signed - perhaps surprisingly - to Nicolas Jaar’s Other People. As one of the crucial faces of Chicago’s iconic Dance Mania label, Slugo helped mark the genre’s territory from the mid-90s onwards. King of Ghetto House is a collection of new, original songs he has been playing over the past few years. With its splattered, nervous beats, the fame claiming EP lives up to its name. Dry synthesized drums dominate ‘From The Back’ and the agitated ‘Worker’, while ‘Get Down (What the Fuck)’ stays in character with its layering of vocal samples that slice to the bone.
