Laurent Garnier pops back up with a pair of soulful shakers, this time for the Motor City Drum Ensemble imprint. The French producer has certainly gotten with the program, crafting two heavily Detroit-influenced house killers that fit right in at his new label. On ‘Psyche-Delia’ he masterfully juggles swelling samples, snaking synths, a fat bass line and meticulously layered percussion, every sonic element falling in its right place. Fuelled by a steadily pounding kick-shaker combo and shifty keys, ‘Whistle For Frankie’ opens up unhurriedly, culminating in a jazzy electric piano solo that’d make a born-and-raised Michiganite check the credits twice.
