The wonderfully esoteric Red Snapper, now a four-piece celebrating more than two decades together, announce their live soundtrack project Hyena with a funky new tune and three capitally curated remixes. ‘Card Trick’, which wears its afro-beat influences proudly, sports a tight, lilting drumbeat, chunky 303 bass, faux-horns, organs and killer wah guitar. London’s Tici Taci latches on to the original’s bass line on his slow-mo house remix, adding rich synths and swatches of borrowed organ. Auntie Flo adds some stunning piano to his remix of album cut ‘Village Tap’, while Red Snapper drummer Richard Thair’s mix of the same tune is predictably percussive and all the better for it.
