Los Angeles Hi-Fi shop/record label In Sheep’s Clothing launches their new SELECTS archival series with a reissue of the Electric Satie project by Japanese producer Mitsuto Suzuki under his Gymnopédie ’99 alias. As its title suggests, Suzuki takes the (then provocative) piano work of the enigmatic French composer and adds an electronic-minded spin. Cruising from bossa nova to chill out to warped braindance, these reimaginings sort of function like the late 90s answer to Wendy Carlos’ Switched-On Bach, but the playfulness of Suzuki’s synth and drum machine arrangements put this curio in a league all its own.
