Manchester based duo Akkord's latest EP HTH020 is another fine offering of stark atmospheric techno that challenges listeners, while remaining all the while deeply evocative and compelling. The duo's music is of a shifting, ever-mutating variety, that expands outwards into bold and surprising new directions, before collapsing in on itself into stark and haunting soundscapes of moody rumbling dread. 'Gravure' opens with a stark hiss, and a menacing pulse, before building up to almost unbearable levels of tension, while 'Continum' takes a vaguely drum and bass approach that feels psychedelic and threatening.
