billy woods’ Backwoodz Studioz brings back an early classic in his untouchable oeuvre for the very first time since its release with this 10th anniversary edition of Today, I Wrote Nothing. Coming off the back of critically-acclaimed team ups with Blockhead (solo) and ELUCID (as duo Armand Hammer), woods went into the wilderness somewhat, emerging two whole years later as a changed artists of sorts. The album at the time was seemingly a pivot away from the widescreen nature of his prior work, instead favouring looser, more cerebral rhymes and production that felt more lived-in. A decade on its clear this was less of a deviation and more so where he really came into his own with his now singular wordplay and storytelling.
