Stones Throw Records brings a key DNA strand in the Japanese City Pop story to vinyl for the very first time (outside of his native Japan) with this reissue of Haruomi Hosono’s Tropical Dandy LP. Originally released in 1975, Dandy found the young Hosono further developing the island-infused stylings of his debut, folding in jazz and electronica influences in order to create a sound all his own.

Tracks like the swaying ‘Hurricane Dorothy’ and the jaunty ‘Peking Duck’ bob and weave like a ship on the ocean as pan flutes and lounge piano lines trace his vocal melodies. While Hosono would go on to break ground in a variety of other musical forms both solo and with the Yellow Magic Orchestra, this album stands as his first true masterpiece.
