The at one time anonymous producer Black Narcissus has since been revealed to be Joey Kendrick, and his debut LP Varla – released through Belgian label Weme – is a first rate slice of propulsive vintage electro. Black Narcissus's sound is a pleasingly muscular and old-school throwback to the days when electro entailed trailblazing futurists were making analogue floor fillers; boldly following the guiding lights set out by Kraftwerk into new and uncharted directions. Varla is first rate party music that seemingly popped out of a time machine set to 1985.
