Following strong releases from L-Vis 1990 and Legowelt, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams regular Marquis Hawkes debuts on Clone’s excellent sub label Jack For Daze with the Outta This Hood EP. Here, Hawkes makes no mistake in constructing four jacking cuts strictly for the ‘floor, diving straight in with tough, analogue drums on ‘Outta This Hood’ and the slightly funkier ‘Peanut’. Flipping over, we find huge tumbling drums, claps and clipped vocals on ‘Talkin’ Shit’ and ‘Like That’, another hardened club weapon that also displays it’s soft side with a nice floating melody.
