Originally beginning as a one off collaboration, Japanese avant-garde legend Keiji Haino, Jim O’Rourke (Sonic Youth) and Black Truffle Records label head Oren Ambarchi have formed a formidable trio, refining their sound on a regular basis at Tokyo’s experimental institution Superdeluxe. Their fifth LP Only Wanting To Melt Beautifully Away captures the magic of one of these sessions where the trio embarks on an immersive journey that meanders through O’Rourke’s 12-string guitar wizardry backed up Haino’s multi-instrumental talents and breathtaking vocals. Ambarchi caps the performance with his gentle hand drumming, adding the finishing touches to one of the finest musical statements from these artists to date.
