The Efficient Space label shines a little light on another Australian imprint that helped pave the way with the first entry in their new Volition Records sampler entitled Volition Cuts. Arriving just as darker strains of the post-punk underground started to mingle with clubbier (or at least more electronic) fare, Volition helped to catalogue and codify Australia's homegrown scene in the wake of bands like The Fall, Cabaret Voltaire, and well, The Wake, while also inching towards the dancefloor with plenty of remixes and edits. Volition Cuts Vol. 1 centers around two important dubs from their early era with Sisters Underground’s ‘In The Neighbourhood (Sisters On The Boulevarde Dub)’ and Single Gun Theory’s ‘Fall (Voyage To The Bottom Of The Dub Remix)’, both of which strike a balance between gloom and glam.
