Mona Finnih
I Love Myself / People Of The World
Voodoo Funk
Catalogue Number
Release Date
May 13, 2014

Vodoo Funk continue their good work of reissuing long lost African funk masterpieces from decades past. Monah Finnih was part of Nigerian soul group The Sunflowers in the late 1960's, before later moving to the US. On her return to Nigeria in the late 70's she teamed up with guitarist Jimi Lee Adams, and these two excellent tracks are a document of their output. 'I Love Myself' is a delightfully rough funk stomper, adorned with stirring horns and a relentless rhythm section, while 'People of the World' is more methodical but just as energetic, and features some first rate unhinged guitar work from Jimi Lee Adams. The unrelenting raw energy of these tracks will appeal just as much to post-punk fans as it will to obscure funk aficionados.
