Motor City Drum Ensemble's Raw Cuts series, released on his own label, has been a boon to DJs and dancers for the past six years. The earthy, funk-laden jams are a little slice of heaven, but Danilo Plessow has decided to draw a line in the sand and put it to a halt, and he's doing so with this triple threat of remixes. Marcellus Pittman, from the original motor city, delivers a stripped-back take, a lone vocal intoning over a simple organ refrain. Fellow Motown man Mike Huckaby goes in with more energy, all horn blasts and more hypnotic organs. Recloose's effort is the furthest from the original material, but to no less devastating effect.
