Modern classical composer Adrian Corker's album Raise, released in 2013, was an absorbing work, a hymnal and reflective piece of aural landscaping. He has now followed this up with the equally exceptional EP Start Merge Fade, which features one brand new composition and two reworks of tracks from the album Raise by Circle Traps and Richard Skelton. 'Start Merge Fade', performed by Lucy Railton, is a piece of quavering drones that unfurls with elegance and control, sighing strings drawing the emotional weight to the surface. Circle Traps (the duo made up of two members of Portico Quartet) add deep and smoky ambient sounds with a dance-floor kick to 'Charged'. Richard Skelton's take meanwhile adds a stilling poignancy to 'Shifting Grains', his talent for creating elegiac, densely textured music the perfect match for Corker's compositions.
