Rival Consoles’ mastery over synthesis, articulation, and conceptual electronics brings something uniquely intense to a soundtrack, and his score for Build A Rocket Boy’s narrative-driven game MindsEye presents some of his most rugged material in recent years. Metallic rhythms lurch, synths growl and spark, and as the stakes get higher, his signature emotivity comes through, prompted by lashing percussive details and incinerating washes of bass contrasting against curious piano flourishes. It’s some of his most overtly techno material, constantly pulsing, brewing up stealthy tension, and bristling with industrial action.
