More hazy house treats from 100% Silk, this time courtesy of Montreal’s Vaughn Robert Squire aka Prison Garde. Squire’s throwback sensibility and sleek sound, a blend of analogue synthesizers, tight bass and classic 4-4 grooves, fit nicely among his new label’s catalogue. Opener ‘New World Mission’ piles chaotic samples atop a punchy, hat-heavy beat, while Spartan banger ‘Radio Jammer’ works wonders with little more than a shimmering sample, stark bass, a kick and a clap. Other highlights include the soulful piano on ‘Black Grey Modulator’, the gorgeous synth melodies of ‘Option’ and the restrained acid flex of the title track.
