Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes and Rooney frontman Robert Schwartzman provide the appropriately angst-y soundtrack to Gia Coppola’s directorial debut, Palo Alto. Hynes contributes a pair of original pieces, including the trailer-ready title theme, and two Blood Orange songs, the slick ‘Champagne Coast’ and retro RnB number ‘You’re Not Good Enough’. Schwartzman chips in the ambient interlude ‘Graveyard’ for texture, as well as the spacey vocal house groove ‘Fútbol Americano’ and foot stomper ‘So Bad’. Elsewhere, alt-hero Mac Demarco, lo-fi duo Tonstartssbandht, composer Francesco Pennino and film star Jack Kilmer help flesh out the film’s distinct sonic identity.
