UK singer/song-writer Douglas Dare delivers his striking full-length debut, courtesy of Erased Tapes. The youngster’s music, reasonably comparable to fellow Londoner James Blake, combines a gentle, British-accented croon with sombre, piano-led melodies and subtle electronic touches. From the pulsating organ on ‘Nile’ to the buzzing synths on ‘Unrest’ and glitchy percussion on ‘Lungful’, Dare and producer Fabian Prynn create gorgeous, aching backdrops. However, it’s the piano-led pieces, like mournful opener ‘Clockwork’ and the all-too-brief instrumental title track, that leave the deepest impression.
