Much like the blurred warmth of its front cover, the music of Grenier Meets Archie Pelago is rich, laid-back and hazy. It was always going to be, as the album sees two of the most intiuitive and sensuous musical forces in the business hitting it off. LA-based producer Grenier caught wind of this saxophone-cello-and-electronics trio via Distal, the Atlanta bass producer who'd employed them for a remix of his track ‘Amphibian’, and a relationship blossomed immediately. The trio journeyed from their native Brooklyn to Grenier’s former home in San Francisco and set about sketching their work in the basement of an art gallery for one unhurried week. The result is the quintessential sound of the West Coast, owing to its gauzy beats and soft-edge orchestrations, exemplified in the aptly titled opener ‘Swoon’.
