Fly By Night Music come up trumps with an excellent release from LOWLOW which channels classic Chicago House and Detroit techno and twists them into strange new shapes. A-side ‘Lower States’ is grounded upon a rough jacking percussion line whose incessant claps play off against squelching electro bass attacks in ever-changing patterns. ‘Lowest Sun’, however, is the highlight, with the producer employing a mangled sample of something like a choir to broaden out another fidgety and physical drum line which just keeps on rolling.
