Echaskech are back with their third full-length for Just Music, another grab bag of smart electronica from the London duo. The glitchy, panoramic ‘Scanners’ sets the tone nicely, an intricately structured, emotive track that fondly recalls late 90’s/early 2000’s IDM. The rich, stargazing textures of ‘Voyager’ transition smoothly into the late night throb of ‘Paper Scissors’, both building to affecting climaxes. ‘Form | Function’ is the closest the pair comes to the club, a cerebral banger built around cyclical synth arpeggios and booming drum work. The slinky ‘Sovereign System’ chases it nicely, and propulsive closer ‘Anomie’, with its anthemic guitar-riff and epic climax, is a fitting way to end this one.
