From Portland’s prolific Wil-Ru Records comes the solo debut from analogue synth buff Cliff White. White’s first collection strikes the right balance between expansive sci-fi soundscapes and adventurous experimentation, and showcases his armada of vintage modular synthesizers. Opener ‘First Traveller’ and ‘Approach – Throughput’ are driven by spacey synth-arpeggios reminiscent of Tangerine Dream or Sensations’ Fix, and ‘The Factory Floor’ and ‘Fast Charlie’ are powered by ridiculous proto-techno grooves. The musique concrète of ‘Gestures’ and ‘Exit Road’ call to mind early Radiophonic Workshop experiments, and directly contrast with gorgeous pieces like ‘Trains Past’ and ‘The Far Shore’.
