Produced entirely by Mathematics, Black Samson adds some more fanfare for Wu-Tang’s farewell tour, while also working as a strong closing salvo in its own right from one of rap’s most royal crews. The brash and bawdy early single ‘Mandingo’ certainly sets the (always somewhat) sophomoric tone here, but in truth it’s a joy to hear all 9 living members on a track doing anything at all. In fact, the A side’s closing Shaolin two-parter stands as strong as any entries into that storied bit of framework.
