Romanian duo Khidja marks their Emotional Especial debut with the middle-eastern influenced Mustafa & Abdul EP. Dripping with character ‘Mustafa’ distills staggering percussion, hand-drums and bursting acid patterns into a rich mix that all leads to a serene, Arabian flute breakdown. Timothy J Fairplay takes a turn on ‘Mustafa’, injecting a more direct beat and steady hand claps for a greater dance floor swing. On the other side ‘Abdul’ is a slow snake charmer, brooding over a dubbed-out low end and raising choir-like voices whilst analogue enthusiasts Juju & Jordash demonstrate their understanding of eastern music with their extended, tripped out rework.
