TVT Records presents the timely reissue of Gil Scott Heron and Brian Jackson’s beautiful 1975 classic ‘Midnight Band: The First Minute Of A New Day’. Following huge debut Winter In America, the two musicians drafted in the talents of the eight-piece Midnight Band whose contribution adds to the fuller sound. Opener ‘Offering’ is a soft, jazz-funk piece with light brushes whereas ‘Ain’t No Such Thing As A Superman’ showcases Gil Scott-Heron’s warm, velvety vocals amongst a confident, swaggering production unit. Ever political, ‘Pardon Our Analysis (We Beg Your Pardon)’ is the only spoken word piece on the LP, where Scott-Heron offers his frank, poetic opinion of Richard Nixon’s pardon after the Watergate scandal.
