DJ Q has been making music for a while now, having been a key player in garage, bass-line and continuing most recently to release on London independent label Local Action. Fittingly perhaps, his album Ineffable comes across like an exuberant journey through the last ten years of UK club music. There are moments of trancey-stabs, slippery 2-step beats, thumping 4/4 basslines, diced up vocals, flurries of breaks and elastic, strutting grime, all put together with a raucous energy and sugary, dance pop glow, as exemplified best by the Louise Williams featuring 'Let The Music Play'. It's all impeccably produced, and while nothing exactly groundbreaking is happening here, Ineffable contains plenty of strong moments and should be a joy for anyone with an interest in UK club culture and the dialogue it has always had with the UK pop mainstream.
