The Smiths eponymous debut album announced to the world in 1984 the presence of a group of rare originality and power, and Warner Bros’ reissue marks the 30-year anniversary of its release. Though there is little filler over the album’s terse 10 tracks, the record’s B-side is astonishingly rich, running through the tense melancholy of ‘Still Ill ‘ through hit singles ‘Hand In Glove’ and What Difference Does it Make? in one swoop. For younger fans or those wanting to relive their disaffected youth, revisiting this landmark record will once again be revelatory.
