James Murphy’s Nephew Moon arrives with a second EP for London-via-Glasgow’s Wrong Island Communications label, offering three characterful dancefloor numbers which blend techno, electro and synth pop influences with real flair. ‘Plus Four’ is a searing electro number, with caustic 8-bit patterns and a cavernous clap, while ‘Delay’ is more controlled, dominated by pinprick percussion and a sinister clipped synth riff. ‘Dust’ is the EP’s highpoint though, a slower, majestic synth-pop tribute without words that benefits from a soaring melody that is at once glorious and melancholy.
