Phil Kay of Working For A Nuclear City debuts his new alias King Of The Mountain with Zoetrope, a LP of textured electronics out on Manchester’s Melodic Records. It’s a release that demonstrates Kay’s knowledge of different aspects of sound design, melodies and pastoral electronic production all glued together by interesting rhythms and structure. On the piece’s title track, subtle samples gradually give way for a tension building orchestra of discrete melodies with a driving beat leading the way until eventually pulsating synth patterns push their way to the front ending in blissed-out elation.
