The second release on Arc Light Editions, the label curated by The Wire's Jennifer Lucy Allan, comes in the form of a vinyl reissue of Ingram Marshall's 1984 work Fog Tropes / Gradual Requiem. Marshall was a New York composer influenced by tape manipulation, gamelan and minimalism (he studied with renowned master of the genre Morton Subotnick in the '70s). The two pieces Fog Tropes and Gradual Requiem were composed in 1981 and 1980 respectively, and are built from field recordings, voices and more traditional instruments which have been combined delicately to create sparse but stirring tapestries of sounds. First released by the label New Albion and not since available on vinyl, this is a chance to own an often overlooked masterpiece of post-modern composition.
