Charcoal Owls is the oddball but forward-thinking collaboration between musician Tom James Scott and vocalist-poet Russell Walker from Pheromoans and The Bomber Jacket. Tin Roof is the duo’s debut offering and it sees them joining the dots between a number of disparate forms: Satiesque minimalism, found sounds and oblique pop. The result is a bizarre picture-postcard of an album sent from the sunny heart of suburban insecurity. Following two sold out cassette releases on OneC Records and Night People, Tin Roof opens with the breezy, field-recording strewn ‘He’s Always In There’ before descending into provincial crisis and everyday absurdities on the likes of ‘Artificial Eyes’.
