Ex -Whitehouse member William Bennett’s “Afro-Noise” project Cut Hands has graced the likes of Blackest Ever Black in recent years and provoked both intense admiration and controversy, yet this third volume of releases on Dirter Promotions is testament to its enduring appeal. ‘Vadou Take Me High’ and ‘Erzulie D’en Tort’ roll with the sinister rhythmic swagger characteristic of the project but are nonetheless invigorating, their slamming tribal tom-toms both physically affecting and strangely atmospheric. The ambient cuts ‘Krokodilo Theme’ and ‘Witness the Spread Of The Dream’ show another side to Cut Hands, with beautiful analogue synths creating pensive landscapes akin to Aphex Twin, or a relaxed Vatican Shadow.
