Intergalactic prophet Sun Ra takes us into the cosmos again together with his Astro-Infinity Arkhestra on the 1969 release Atlantis. The piece is famous for Sun Ra’s heavy use of his ‘Solar Sound Instrument’ – a Hohner Clavinet which takes the lead role on A-side ‘Mu’ backed by freeform drumming. On the B-side we’re confronted with the 20-minute plus epic ‘Atlantis’, a live recording made at the Olatunji Center of African Culture In New York that treads the line between music and art, forcing you to constantly readjust to the wild noise and rhythms.
