The leadup to Orbital’s second album brought a new level of hype for the Hartnoll as, rather than collecting hits and hidden gems from the turn of the 90s, they constructed a full length record from scratch. Radiccio was the first taste in 1992, and its standout track ‘Halcyon’ hasn’t left Orbital’s live repertoire in the three decades since. Its captivating vocal loops, idyllic pitch bent plucks, and easygoing frolicking bassline remain a crystal clear spritz of fresh air to this day, backed by the rave synths cutting shapes on ‘The Naked And The Dead’ (transmuted into a stampede of hand drums on the dub version) and the staccato piano stabs on ‘Sunday’ meeting digital gamelan retooled for the rave.
