UK label Ace Records reissues the classic debut studio album from Gil Scott-Heron. Pieces Of A Man, originally released in 1971, was a radical blend of soul, jazz, funk and blues that set the template for a string of successful collaborations between Heron and pianist/bandleader Brian Jackson. On characteristic standouts ‘Home Is Where The Hatred Is’ and ‘Pieces Of A Man’, the former street-poet succeeded in marrying his affecting portraits of inner city inhabitants with slick, soulful production. Also included are Heron’s trademark proto-rap track ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’ and jazz tributary ‘Lady Day And John Coltrane’.
