We Are Catchers release their debut album on indie imprint Domino, offering up a collection of quaint and understated pop which sounds distinctly Liverpudlian. Opener ‘Water’s Edge’ allows a wistful, lilting piano to evoke the feeling of looking out over the Mersey to distant shores, with a simple vocal delivery nonetheless making an emotional impact. Jauntier numbers like ‘Isabella’ and ‘I Feel, with their Beatles-esque backing vocals and rough military drums, give the album a real depth, with the band always eschewing flashy playing in favour of a sincere and affecting delivery.
