Yves De Mey’s second album of 2025 is a laser focussed combination of progressive electronic sound art and leftfield minimal techno. Force Over Area equals pressure, and throughout De Mey crushes microsecond electronics into diamond sound design, pinching melodies into metallic shapes and constructing musical arrays of electrons zipping and whizzing about. The title track is a freezing soundscape where these crunching, snapping, ephemeral details accumulate into an intense blizzard of increasingly guttural sounds, while stumbling shots of noise and glitches clink over the glassy wavering drones of ‘Gdansk’.
