Long-running bay area psych rock freaks Thee Oh Sees are back on their own (and newly rechristened) imprint Deathgod Corp with a much-needed reissue of their classic Mutilator Defeated at Last LP just in time for its 10 year anniversary. Cutting some of the more outre experimentalism of its preceding efforts in favour of the kind of mutant riffs on which Jon Dwyer and co. built the brand, Mutilator Defeated remains a (mostly) relentless cycle of guitar and drum abuse in the best way. While a few acoustic guitars and synth lines creep into frame, the jacked up power pop of tracks like ‘Poor Queen’ and ‘Lupine Ossuary’ are most emblematic of this record’s awesome might.
