30th Century Records brings something of a lost classic back to vinyl for the first time since its 2008 release with this reissue of Gnarls Barkley’s sophomore LP The Odd Couple. While the duo of ATL soul man Cee-Lo Green and producer Danger Mouse may have been best known for ‘Crazy’, the runaway single merely hinted at the adventurous spirit of the Gnarls Barkley project at large.

The Odd Couple doesn’t stray too far from the cinematic R&B vibe of their debut, choosing instead to sharpen their lines and smooth out the edges. Gnarls Barkley are at their best here when they do colour a bit outside the margins like on the synthpop textures of the gospel-tinged ‘Going On’ or the warpspeed funk of ‘Run (I’m A Natural Disaster)’.
