‘A Love Supreme’ is widely held to be one of the greatest jazz records of all time, remaining a landmark for the scene and an inspiration for a much wider pool of admiring musician. Having originally been released in 1965, Impulse’s repressing of this masterpiece will undoubtedly be keenly anticipated by the many who hold it close to their hearts. Over four parts Coltrane and his quartet play ecstatically intense extended modal improvisations; reverential offerings which nonetheless hum with the energy and groove of cool-era jazz.
