Fennesz returns with a new album on Editions Mego. Bécs sees him departing from the drone of his most recent work for a more fluid and emotionally driven sound, perhaps most akin to the breathtaking sonic landscapes of his album Endless Summer. 'Liminality' unfurls perfectly over ten minutes, fuzz-laden guitars sprawled out and electrifying. 'Pallas Athene' is a piece of filigree atmospheres as enveloping as it is celestial, while opening track 'Static Kings' grows from tumbling instrumentation into a track of true enigmatic beauty. This is an incredible release, an album full of some of the most finely tuned and unique compositions out there.
