Peverelist, Kowton, and Asusu’s Livity Sound imprint must rank as one of the most intriguing and consistently impressive projects to have graced dance music in recent years, and this remix release sees MMM and Pangaea step up to provide new takes on the group’s material. MMM’s version of Pev & Asusu’s ‘Surge’ is an unstoppable acid-techno thudder, with little more than rising machine noise, burrowing mid-range attacks and a single kick and tom adding up to much more than the sum of their parts. Hessle Audio member Pangaea’s take on Pev & Kowton’s ‘Vapours’ takes its cue from the raw power of the original, with wild tribal percussion infecting an aggressive yet funky pulse.
