French techno legend Laurent Garnier and French Fries remix Bambounou for Modeselektor’s brilliant 50 Weapons imprint, offering pristine cuts which will nonetheless have an appeal to a wide audience. French Fries’ remix of ‘Take It Out On Me’ makes something surprisingly compelling from nagging, obsessive elements, with two constantly ticking keyboard notes and a distant, distorted vocal sample providing a stable base from which tribal drum patterns spread in intriguing configurations. Laurent Garnier’s take on ‘Ignition’ is a main room techno belter, with low-end blasts and melancholy strings beefing up a hefty jack.
